PAINTINGS,
GRAPHICS BY UPAGARN, AHLSTRAND, DAS
An
exhibition of graphics and paintings by three artists was held last
week at the Academy of Fine arts. The artists - Chamnan Tong-Upagarn
of Thailand, Lars Ahlstrand from Denmark and Babita Das from India have
nothing in common except for the fact that they are friends and, perhaps,
like-minded experimentalists. The exhibition, however, was an excellent
venture as all three artists are technically sound, contemplative and
like experimenting with new methods of treatment.
Copenhagen-born, self-studied artist Lars Ahlstrand, however, is equally
good and effective at creating a visual riddle which pleases as well
as arouses intellectual curiosity.
His canvases are full hectic strokes of almost all colours. Although
much has been said and done about abstract expressionism, Ahlstrand's
untitled works hold an appeal of their own.
